Police seek help solving robberies

WINNIPEG — Police are looking for help solving a string of robberies in the city — including one that targeted a woman in her 80s.

The first string of robberies involve a group of young men who confronted and stabbed three people late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning on Selkirk Avenue near Powers Street.

Police said three to four males threatened a 46-year-old man at about 11 p.m. After the man refused to hand over his possessions, police said they pushed the victim to the ground and injured him.

Police responded and the man received medical treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

About two hours later, police came back to the same area of Selkirk Avenue after four men confronted a 53-year-old man. The boys pushed the man and his friend to the ground, before stabbing one of the pair and taking off with some belongings. The man went to hospital in stable condition, said police.

At about 2 a.m., police said another 26-year-old man reported a robbery involving four young men.

The man was also stabbed in the upper body and went to hospital in stable condition.

Police said Wednesday they don’t believe the attacks are gang-related.

Investigators are looking for men who are aboriginal in appearance, 18 to 25 years old, and about 5-8.

Police are also looking for a young woman who preyed on an 81-year-old woman.

The senior was gardening at her home on the 900 block of Inkster Boulevard when police said another woman drove up to the home in a sporty, yellow vehicle and asked her for money.

The woman said she needed money for gas to visit a sick child in the hospital, and the senior gave her cash.

Minutes later, the suspect came back to the home and asked to use the woman’s washroom.

While she was in the home, the suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and struggled briefly with the senior.

Police described the suspect as a Caucasian female about 25 to 30 years old, about 5-4, with light brown hair in a ponytail. She has a round face with a red complexion, and wore a tight black short skirt and a black shirt.

Police said she drove a yellow, sporty-looking car.
