Pools close for renovations, repairs
Several indoor pools around Winnipeg have closed or will be closing temporarily – but for reasons that will be worth the wait.
City Council is pouring out $3 million to improve Transcona Centennial Pool, Elmwood Kildonan Pool, St. James Centennial Pool, and Pan Am Pool, and upgrades for two of the pools are already underway.
"Pool facilities are extremely popular throughout the city," said Mayor Sam Katz. "This preventative maintenance program reduces the risk of unscheduled closures throughout the year and ensures our citizens have access to modern, well-cared-for facilities."
The improvements on the agenda include roof repairs, improved locker facilities, floor replacement, and the installation of new ultraviolet light disinfection units.
As a result of the renovations:
- St. James Centennial Pool will remain closed until Sept. 14.
- Pan Am Pool will stay closed until Sept. 29.
- Elmwood Kildonan Pool will be closed Aug. 25 to Sept. 29.
- Transcona Centennial Pool will be closed between Sept. 2 and Sept. 29.
All four pools are scheduled to be open by the time fall aquatics programming starts up again.
Information on pool hours and programming can be obtained by contacting 311 via telephone or emailing the city service at 311@winnipeg.ca.
