Power restored after hydro pole fire

A hydro pole fire on Taylor Avenue this morning knocked out power to some places in the area.

Power was restored to Motor Coach Industries and neighbourhoods including Lindenwoods about 11:30 a.m., a Manitoba Hydro spokesman said.

A new hydro pole was being put up this  afternoon to hook up customers directly affected by the outage on south side of Taylor Avenue.

The fire, reported during this morning's rush hour, took out a hydro pole at 1400 Taylor Avenue.

The power outage affects customers in the immediate vicinity of and east of the Re-Fit Centre, including some retail mall areas. The pole also carried lines serving a much larger area, including most of Lindenwoods and an area west of Pembina Highway between Chevrier Boulevard and Taylor Avenue. That included the Motor Coach Industries, Manitoba Hydro spokesman Glenn Schneider said.

There’s no word on what caused the fire this morning but typically such burns are the result of insulator failure.
