A power outage this morning in Fort Richmond that affected about 1,600 customers was fixed by about 9:30 a.m.
Glenn Schneider, a spokesman with Manitoba Hydro, said there was a pole-top fire caused by this morning’s wet weather.
"We had some sort of snowy condition which creates a muddy surface," Schneider explained. "Mud on the insulator creates a path for the electricity to flow from the conductor to the supporting wood pole."
As a result, the current started a fire on the wood.
"There’s been several of those this spring," Schneider said.
