Power out in downtown Winnipeg

WINNIPEG — Manitoba Hydro expects to have the power back on by 2:30 p.m. for about half of 800 customers downtown hit by a power outage today.

"We've got crews on site," said spokesman Jim Peters. The outage affected the downtown from the Red River to Isabel Street and north of Portage Avenue.

The power should be back on later this afternoon for the other 400 residential and business customers, Peters said.

The problem was caused by a failure of underground power lines leaving a hydro substation at Amy Street and Rupert Avenue, said Peters.
