The province is adding 98 new medications next week to its pharmacare program, including Afinitor, a drug that treats advanced renal cancer, pancreatic tumours and advanced breast cancer.
Health Minister Erin Selby made the announcement today.
She noted coverage is also being extended to Tecfidera, a drug for treating multiple sclerosis.
Other pharmaceuticals to be covered include:
❚ Acuvail, for the treatment of pain and inflammation after cataract surgery;
❚ Dificid, for treatment of c. difficile infections in adults;
❚ Epuris for the treatment of acne;
❚ Fycompa for the treatment of epilepsy; and
❚ Lodalis for the treatment of high blood cholesterol.
Pharmacare is a comprehensive prescription drug program in Manitoba. Benefits are based on family income. The program covers 100 per cent of eligible drug costs once the income-based deductible is reached.
Coverage of the new medications begins July 17.
