Province among few to see drop in wholesale sales

  • Print

Manitoba was one of only two provinces to see a drop in wholesale sales in October, Statistics Canada said today.

The agency said wholesalers shipped out $1.31-billion worth of goods during the month. That was a decline of 1.8 per cent from September’s total of just over $1.33 billion. It also fell 1.3 per cent short of total for the same month last year, when just under $1.33-billion worth of goods were sold.

Manitoba’s month-to-month decline was the largest in the country, while its year-over-year drop was the third-largest.

Nationally, wholesale sales increased by 0.9 per cent to $49.2 billion, after falling by 1.5 per cent in September. October’s total was also a 2.2 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when $48.1 billion worth of goods were sold.
