Province promises $100K for Philippines relief effort

The province has pledged $100,000 to support relief efforts in the Philippines after a typhoon swept through the southern part of the country over the past week.

Typhoon Bopha is believed to have killed more than 600 people and left an estimated 400,000 people homeless. Hundreds more are missing.

"Our thoughts are with those who have lost family and friends as a result of typhoon Bopha," said Premier Greg Selinger. "Manitobans stand in solidarity with those in the Philippines as they rebuild and recover from this devastating natural disaster."

The province’s donation has been made to the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC), an independent coalition of development organizations that oversees the distribution of development dollars.
