Police and provincial officials are warning the public about a high-risk sex offender who will be released from Headingly Correction Centre on Sunday.
Winston George Thomas, 36, has numerous criminal convictions, including two counts of sexual assault, the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit said Friday.
He committed a sexual act with a 13-year-old girl in March 2007, after he and two other men met the girl at a Winnipeg shopping centre. He was sentenced to two years less a day followed by three years of probation.
Since his conviction on that crime, he has been released several times, only to be returned to jail each time after breaching probation, including his last arrest on March 14, 2013.
Although Thomas participated in some sex offender treatment programs while in prison, he is still considered a high risk to re-offend. "Females of all ages are at risk of sexual violence," officials said Friday in a release.
Sunday's release requires meeting numerous conditions, including not possessing or consuming alcohol or drugs, abiding by a curfew between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
If the public has information regarding Thomas, contact Winnipeg police at 204-986-6222 or other local police, or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 or toll free at 1-800-222-8477.
