Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael Moss, author of Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us, will discuss his book and other food-related issues at an appearance at the Masonic Centre, 420 Corydon Ave., Thursday night.
In the book, Moss, an investigative reporter for the New York Times, reveals the average American eats 33 pounds (15 kilograms) of cheese and 70 pounds (31.5 kg) of sugar a year and 8,500 milligrams of salt a day. He maintains that the food industry would cease to exist without salt, sugar and fat.
The event, sponsored by the Winnipeg Foundation and Food Matters Manitoba, kicks off the Growing Local Conference, which takes place Friday and Saturday at the Marlborough Hotel.
