The RCMP closed the Camp Hughes rest area on the Trans-Canada Highway in western Manitoba today as they investigate a possible assault.
Police say that a woman was reportedly assaulted — possibly sexually assaulted — at the wayside turnoff sometime Wednesday. No suspect has been arrested, and although the condition of the victim isn't known, police say there's no indication of extensive injuries.
With the assistance of a canine unit, RCMP have cordoned off a section of the rest area, which is about 17 kms west of Carberry, as they search for possible forensic evidence. They are still investigating and say they will release more information as it becomes available.
