RCMP lay charges in frightening home invasion

  • Print

Steinbach RCMP say three people barged their way into a home, assaulted a male inside and forced him to walk to an ATM and hand over cash.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning about 1:40 a.m.

Three suspects (two men and a female) entered a home on Third Street and struck a male victim in the head with a metal bar. The suspects then forced the victim to walk to a nearby bank machine and ordered him to remove money from his account.

The suspects assaulted the victim once again, before eventually walking away.

Four hours after the suspects first entered his home, the victim notified Steinbach RCMP and an investigation ensued.

Two female youths (aged 16 and 17) from Mitchell, Man. and two men (aged 19 and 21) from Steinbach are facing numerous charges related to the incident.

They have been charged with robbery with a weapon; break, enter and commit an aggravated assault, forcible confinement and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The men and the 17-year-old female have been remanded into custody.

The victim and the two females are known to each other, RCMP say.

Further investigation at a Steinbach residence found the weapon used and some of the clothing worn during the attack.

The investigation continues.
