RMTC, Millennium launch Play on Words series

Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and Millennium Library have partnered on a new lunch-hour series that will launch with a look at the making of a new production of Gone With the Wind.

Play on Words will debut Tuesday at the library’s Carol Shields Auditorium with Niki Landau, the author of a new version of the Margaret Mitchell Civil War epic. The Toronto actress/playwright will talk about the challenges of adapting such an iconic story.

She will be followed Jan. 15 with a chat with the show’s two leads, Bethany Jillard, who plays Scarlett O’Hara and Tom McCamus, who portrays Rhett Butler. RMTC’s wardrobe department and the GWTW costumes will be in the spotlight on Jan. 22.

"The aim for Play on Words is to help audiences develop a deeper connection to RMTC’s work," says Jennifer Cheslock, the theatre’s outreach manager.

Artist talks are 40 minutes long and start at 12:10 p.m. each Tuesday.
