RRC president will pay for golf shoes

Red River College president Stephanie Forsyth will pay the college back for $205 golf shoes she billed the college in 2011.

Forsyth said in a statement today that as of April 1 her expense claims will be posted on the college’s website "in the interests of full transparency."

She said the golf shoes were only used for college business, a golf tournament she participated.

"However, I understand some people may find the expense questionable, so I will repay this expense," she said in the statement.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation called Forsyth Wednesday on her expenses after releasing documents obtained through a freedom of information request.

The documents show Forsyth expensed $205 for the golf shoes plus a bag at the Vancouver airport for $134 and a number of expenses for her BMW, such as car washes, insurance, winter tires and a GPS device.

Craig requested the RRC board, in a letter to Chair of the Red River College Board of Governor’s Richard Lennon, to review the expenses and if appropriate, seek reimbursement from Forsyth.

Forsyth also said in the statement that her total expenses include all allowable expenses incurred in her work as college president, work that includes travel, meetings and vehicle expenses.
