VIDEO: Fisticuffs between RedHawks manager, Goldeyes coach

  • Print

On a night celebrating the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, there was absolutely no peace or love between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

The Free Press has obtained video of the brawl  the brawl that took place in Monday night’s game between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

In it, Goldeyes coach Tom Vaeth steps between Fargo manager Doug Simunic and Winnipeg third baseman Kevin West. Simunic punches Vaeth and both benches clear.

The brawl came immediately after Goldeyes pitcher Ace Walker threw behind RedHawks slugger Nic Jackson with the first pitch of the third inning. The pitch appeared to be retaliation for Fargo pitcher Garry Bakker’s tosses to West. In the second inning, Bakker threw behind West, but the pitcher appeared to apologize. In the third, a Bakker curveball plunked West in the helmet.

Vaeth and Simunic were both ejected from the game.

The RedHawks and Goldeyes will renew acquaintances for a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. tonight before finishing the season series with a noon matinee on Wednesday.
