Regina woman killed in rural Manitoba crash

WINNIPEG - A crash on Highway 59 southeast of Winnipeg claimed the life of a Regina woman on Christmas Day.

A northbound 1994 Cadillac collided head-on with a southbound 2001 Ford Windstar van on Highway 59 about a mile north of Provincial Road 311, in the rural municipality of Hanover, RCMP said Saturday.

A passenger in the Cadillac, a 75-year-old woman from Regina, was taken to a Winnipeg hospital but died of her injuries.  The woman's name was not released at her family's request.

The Cadillac's driver was released by medical personnel at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the van was treated for his injures in hospital and released, while a 65-year-old Winnipeg woman riding in the van is in stable condition in a Winnipeg hospital.

Icy roads were a contributing factor in the collision, RCMP said.
