Released sex offender considered high risk to reoffend: police

Winnipeg police and RCMP are notifying the public of the imminent release of a sex offender expected to take up residence in Winnipeg.
William Astle, 77, will be released on Dec. 22 from the Headingly Correctional Centre following a 168-day sentence for violating a probation order.
Astle is a convicted sex offender with a criminal record of sexual offences in relation to children.
The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit says Astle is considered a high risk to reoffend, particularly toward female children.
Police say Astle received some sex offender treatment programs while in prison.
Astle’s previous convictions include charges of indecent assault, sexual interference and indecent exposure.
Anyone with information about Mr. Astle is asked to call the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit at 204-984-1888.
