Residents of apartment block on Grant Ave. without running water

Residents of a Grant Avenue apartment block are without running water after a water-main break that was first reported early this morning, city officials said.

A city spokeswoman said this morning the portion of the pipe with the break in it is not a city pipe. She said crews have isolated it but it is up to the building owner to have it repaired.

About 200 residents of the General Grant at 1281 Grant Ave. are relying on a mobile tank for water, provided by the city, as crews continue to repair the break on a pipe first installed in 1959. The break was first reported at about 12:30 a.m. today.

The break happened in the area of Grant Avenue and Nathaniel Street.

The Pan Am Pool was shut down at 4 a.m. due to the water-main break. The facility reopened about noon.
