Sandy Bay man dies following crash

A 36-year-old Sandy Bay First Nation man is dead after a weekend crash in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

RCMP said the crash occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday when a red Ford Mustang travelling westbound on Highway 227 struck an eastbound pickup truck pulling a trailer.

The lone driver of the Mustang had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was transported to Portage General Hospital before he was transferred to Health Sciences Centre.

The man died in hospital from his injuries.

The occupants of the pick-up truck — a 36-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy — were treated at the scene for non life-threatening injuries.

RCMP believe alcohol was a factor in the fatal crash and are continuing to investigate.
