Schneider named AHL goalie of the month

Even now that he’s in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks -- although only temporarily -- Manitoba Moose goaltender Cory Schneider is still making waves in the American Hockey League.
Schneider, who was called up to the Canucks last month to replace the injured Roberto Luongo, was recognized today for his stellar play with the Moose by being named the AHL’s Rebook X-Pulse goalie of the month for November.
Schneider, 22, was unbeatable during the month, going 5-0-0 with a 1.20 goals-against average and a sparkling .959 saves percentage. Overall, the AHL’s No. 1 netminder is on a personal 10-game win streak in the AHL, a Moose record.
Since Schneider was called up to the Canucks Nov. 22, he was named third star in his first NHL start, a loss Nov. 30 to the Calgary Flames, and he was tagged with the loss Monday night when he gave up three goals on 18 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Schneider -- Vancouver’s first-round draft choice, 26th overall, in 2004 -- is still the top goalie in AHL with an overall 1.37 goals-against average and a 10-1-1 record.
