Winnipeg police announced this morning that a second arrest has been made in connection with the homicide that happened last weekend in a building on Hargrave Street.
Raven Desjarlais, 27, was arrested and charged with second degree murder and arson disregard for human life in connection with her alleged involvement with the incident. She was arrested in Regina on a Canada-wide warrant for suspects.
She's also being charged with a warrant for an unrelated robbery incident and remains in custody.
Police reported their first arrest in conjunction with the case on Thursday. Clarissa Dawn Ponace, 29, was arrested and is facing a second-degree murder charge following the killing of 53-year-old Arthur Haussermann in a downtown apartment.
She is also accused of arson and breaching previous court orders, including probation.
Haussermann was found inside his burning suite last Saturday morning. Officials initially believed it was the fire that caused his death, but an autopsy revealed he'd suffered upper-body injuries prior to the blaze at the Holiday Towers South highrise on Hargrave Street.
The fire may have been an attempt to cover up evidence. It was contained within the suite and caused about $10,000 damage. Haussermann was rushed to hospital in critical condition but could not be saved.
Police said Wednesday the victim and accused would have been "brief acquaintances" on the evening of his death.
No other details were provided about their relationship or the circumstances of the slaying.
