Second-degree murder charges laid in death of Ross
Police have charged a man and woman with second-degree murder for the death of Clarence Ross this week in the West End.
Ross, 31, died Thursday after he was assaulted in a back alley behind a supermarket on the 600 block of Sargent Avenue, near Sherbrook Street. Police said the assault happened after Ross encountered the pair near Maryland Street and Sargent Avenue.
A police spokeswoman said a weapon was used in the attack, but didn’t say what type of weapon it was.
Devin Vernon Williams-Wapash, 19, was charged with second degree murder.
There was also a warrant to apprehend him at the time of his arrest, and he was charged with two probation breaches.
Danyell Williams, 22, was also charged with second degree murder.
The accused are cousins, said Patrol Sgt. Monica Stothers. Both allegedly fled the scene after the attack, but were found nearby. The grisly attack left a large blood stain in the back alley, and a witness said Ross had extensive head trauma.
Stothers didn’t say if police have seized the weapon.
