The global-warming/climate change debate is not a vegetarian/carnivore issue, it's a food production issue.
The ways in which we produce, ship and process food uses copious amounts of oil (shipping and production), creates massive amounts of polluting waste (intensive livestock operations, or ILOs) and causes illness (animal and human, including E. Coli in both vegetables and meats, not to mention the rise in obesity).
Vegetarians who eat processed "broccoli-cheese nuggets", heavily processed, overly-packaged and shipped thousands of kilometers are as much to blame as meat-eaters who eat chicken nuggets produced the same way.
(Granted, the difference is the cruelty to animals that can occur in ILOs, but that's a moral issue and another debate.)
It is not WHAT we eat, but HOW our food supply chain works that is the problem.
Dinner consisting of a local free-range chicken and local carrots & potatoes will have significantly less environmental impact than a salad made with produce from California, Mexico and Argentina.
Meativores and vegivores alike should be concerned with our food system and who is controlling it rather than blaming one another for individual food choices.

Who certifies these drivers? Obviously this guy was not qualified to be on a public roadway!
This is very scarey!
I hope that he loses his license.

Only in Wpg can you have a semi roll over with pigs on it and have a debate about meat and vegetables...What is there that happens in Wpg during the rest of the week and at other times of the month/year?...It's no surprise others laugh at us here in Wpg...I am glad to here the driver is OK and no other humans were injured and that is what is truly important to me...and Wpg...The hog industry in MB operates year round in case you were all wondering if it did...Check out any of your many Supermarkets somewhere in the city in what they call the "Meat Department"...All supermarkets will also have a courteous employee helping direct you to that department in the event that you are lost/confused and also to the "comment box" at their location and their "head office's" etc...GGF

So my comment about the live load wasn't politically correct enough to make it on here? OK, let me try to rephrase it. The accident happened because the center of gravity became too far outside the vehicle to remain upright. This happens when a load has the ability to move/shift. The PROFESSIONAL driver knew what kind of load he was hauling. Too bad he wasn't in CONTROL. Glad to hear he is OK and even happier that no other person was injured from his oversight. I have been in the transport industry, I have seen enough to realize it isn't the right job for some that are doing it. Scary stuff.

To all you vegetable eaters, do you wear a belt, shoes, makeup or soap when you shower? What animals had to die for you to enjoy some of the things in life that you use everyday , yet you criticize the rest of us for eating that same animal. I know for a fact that every part of an animal is used for everyday living either as food or material things that we all enjoy using. So spare us your pity about what you think animals feel when you are no better than the rest of us.

If the government(s) were so concerned about global footprints - why are they shooting rockets up into the sky carrying acrobats and people with way too much money. I am guessing that rocket fuel is just pure air and does no harm to anything up there. Perhaps if the solar system was left alone the world would exist the way mother nature and god intended it.
I grew up on a farm too - when I look back now - definitley the best way to grow up.

My dad told me a story about something like this happening a long time ago, only the truck was carrying cattle. All the men, or quite a few, in town shot one each.

I know that this article has nothing about vegetarians/carnivores, but just for the record, meat eating IS a major cause of global warming, read up on it. The amount of methane that cattle give out is unbelievable and as Ochre mentioned, the amount of land that is needed to grow feed for these animals and for them to graze (hogs normally don't graze and are stuck in a pen their whole life) could be used to grow grains that could feed 1000 times the people. Plus the land that is cleared to house barns and cattle depletes the forests as mentioned already. Someone should not be shunned for choosing to do their part by not eating meat.
Not to mention that eating meat is a major cause of cancer & heart disease. There are many other options out there with higher protein levels and ones that are more easily absorbed into the system.

reminds me of the time a Granny's truck flipped on No. 1 out near Steinbach and everyone pulled over and took a bunch of turkeys and threw them into their cars!
If all of you are worried about the meat issue by the way. Watch Food, Inc. it's at blockbuster. crazy eye-opener
