Sheifele scores in first Jets training scrimmage

WINNIPEG - First-round draft pick Mark Scheifele had one of three goals this morning as the Blue team defeated the Red team 3-1 in the Winnipeg Jets first training camp scrimmage of 2011.

The 50-minute session took place at the MTS Centre, where the rest of the team's first training camp will take place.

The Reds' Blake Wheeler opened the scoring against veteran goalie Chris Mason of the Blues, but the winners responded with goals from rookie Levko Koper, Spencer Mahacek and Scheifele before the intra-squad game was complete.

The Jets will reformulate their training camp groups today as they prepare for Tuesday's double-game scenario. Winnipeg will send one team to Columbus, Ohio, to play the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena, while another squad will stay home and play the Blue Jackets at the MTS Centre.
