Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION

Shortened week starts on a bitterly cold note

Don't get fooled by the bright, sunny day through your window this morning.

It's brutal out there.

At 8 a.m., the mercury in Winnipeg was at -23 C with a wicked wind chill of -37.

Environment Canada isn't reporting much improvement for the rest of the day, either. Winds from the north at 30 km/h will make it feel like -40 later in the day.

The low tonight is -29 C.

For Wednesday, the temperature will rise to a high of -17 C, and the wind will make it feel like -27 under mostly cloudy skies.

Warmer days are ahead, with highs of -10 C on Thursday and Friday under mostly sunny skies.
