Sipple leaves Goldeyes, retires from pro baseball

With the Winnipeg Goldeyes set to welcome the players for the 2012 training camp on Saturday, the Goldeyes parted company Friday with 23-year-old rookie pitcher Eddie Sipple, who decided to retire from professional baseball.

Manager Rick Forney had Sipple, a left-handed pitcher, pencilled into the starting rotation to open camp. However, Forney still has four other southpaws in camp, including returning starter Chris Salamida and newcomers Fabian Williamson, Barrett Phillips and Cody King.

Sipple, 23, made his professional debut with Orem of the Rookie Pioneer League in the Los Angeles Angels organization last season after collegiate career at Division II Florida Southern. He was 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA with Orem.

The Goldeyes now have 24 players on their roster, including 11 pitchers and 13 position players.
