Slight increase in sales for Manitoba's food services and drinking places industry

Manitoba’s food services and drinking places industry rang up a slight increase in sales from August to September, according to Statistics Canada figures released today.

The agency said sales grew by 0.2 per cent to $132.4 million from $132.2 million in August. It was the second smallest gain among the six provinces that posted higher sales.

However, the increase from a year earlier was much more robust — a country-leading 10 per cent. Statistics Canada said September 2011’s sales total was $120.3 million.

Nationally, industry sales rose by 0.5 per cent from August to September — $4.43 billion versus $4.40 billion — and were up 5.5 per cent from September 2011’s total of just under $4.20 billion.
