Small increase in manufacturing sector shipments

Manitoba’s manufacturing sector eked out a small increase in shipments in November, according to Statistics Canada figures released today.

The agency said $1.31 billion worth of goods were shipped from the province’s factories during the month. That was a 0.5 per cent increase from October’s total of $1.30 billion.

The gain was the smallest percentage increase among the five provinces that saw higher sales. New Brunswick led the way with an 11.7 per cent increase.

November’s total was also a 1.3 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when Manitoba factories shipped out $1.29 billion worth of goods.

Nationally, manufacturing shipments were up 1.7 per cent from October, climbing to $49.9 billion from $49.1 billion.

That was the highest level of sales since May of last year, Statistics Canada said. It was also a 0.5 per cent improvement from a year earlier.
