Smashing Pumpkins to play in city Oct. 2

The greatest day that Smashing Pumpkins fans have ever known could be  Oct. 2, as the iconic '90s alt-rock band rolls into Winnipeg for one leg of its Canadian tour.

The gig comes as the band trots the world to promote its brand-new album, Oceania, which was a hit after its release in June. Winnipeg is one of six Canadian dates announced for this fall, marking the first time Billy Corgan and his crew have toured Canada in 10 years.

In a release, the band pledged an epic show that will include every track off Oceania, as well as old hits and lesser-known cult favourites. For visuals, the Pumpkins will turn to "new technology in video-mapping" that was designed for Roger Waters' The Wall.

Tickets for the MTS Centre show are $39 to $92 through Ticketmaster, once fees are included. They go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m.

There are also VIP packages available which may include a premium ticket, a three-song backstage performance and interview session with the band, an autographed tour poster, a copy of Oceania and some special merch. Details about those packages are available at SmashingPumpkins.com.
