Another 109 people from Tataskweyak Cree Nation were moved to Winnipeg today, bringing to 176 the number of people who have left the Split Lake community because of smoke from a forest fire.
A provincial official said that the Manitoba Association of Native Fire Fighters and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada are handling the situation, and are telling the province that removing people from the community is a precaution over smoke.
The community of close to 2,400 people is 772 kilometers north of Winnipeg.
