Smoking materials placed in flower pot blamed for fire on McMillan

Careless disposal of smoking materials was the cause of the Tuesday morning fire on McMillan Avenue that destroyed one home and badly damaged another, according to The Office of the Fire Commissioner.

The fire started after smoking materials were placed into a flower pot full of peat moss, The Office of the Fire Commissioner said today.

The home at 625 McMillan Ave. where the fire started, was a complete loss, estimated to be $600,000.

The fire spread to 627 McMillan, where there was $300,000 damage.
