St. Andrews fire guts house, slows traffic

A one and a half story 1940s-vintage home just south of St. Andrews in the 5500 block of  Hwy. 9 was gutted by fire this morning. St. Andrews Fire responded and it is believed that there are no injuries. The  owner was not home at the time of the fire.

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner has determined that a fire that gutted a house in St. Andrews this morning was accidental.

There was severe damage to a 1.5-storey older home in the 5500-block of Highway 9 this morning, between St. Andrews Road and Liss Road.

The owner of the home was is travelling in the United States, and no one was home at the time of the fire. No injuries have been reported.

The fire commissioner’s office and Selkirk RCMP remain on scene.

The fire is out but traffic is still reduced to one lane for both the north and southbound traffic on Highway 9 between St. Andrew’s Road and Parkdale Road (Highway 27) in the RM of St. Andrew’s.

Fire officials could not provide an estimate on the damage, but the interior of the house was gutted.
