St. Theresa Point signs east-side First Nations road agreement

WINNIPEG - St. Theresa Point First Nation will receive up to $2.25 million to help build a new all-season road on the east side of Lake Winnipeg.

The First Nation and the provincially owned East Side Road Authority announced the "community benefits agreement" today.

The deal, similar to others signed with aboriginal communities along the proposed road, involves training opportunities and jobs.

Under the agreement, the road authority will explore the viability of using a previously identified right-of-way between St. Theresa Point and Wasagamack First Nation for the all-season road. As well, the rough "pioneer" road that exists within the right-of-way will be improved.

The East Side Road Authority, an arm of the Manitoba Floodway Authority, has reached similar training and work agreements with Berens River, Bloodvein, Wasagamack and Red Sucker Lake first nations.
