Stabbed man dies, man charged

A 22-year-old man stabbed in the upper body last Saturday in the 100 block of Burrows Avenue and sent to hospital in critical condition has now died.

A 38-year-old man of no fixed address who had been charged with aggravated assault has had his charge upgraded to second degree murder.

The deceased, Robert Rourke, of Winnipeg, had even gotten better in hospital this week, enough to have his condition go from critical to guarded but stable, before he deteriorated.

The stabbing occurred during a fight in the early morning of Saturday, August 20, when police allege two men left a house party in the area. One of the men produced a knife and stabbed the other before fleeing the scene.

The next day, police arrested Gregory Troy Govereau near Portage Avenue and Booth Drive during a traffic stop.

He is still in custody.
