Stanley Cup to visit city next week

The hockey season is far from over, but Jets fans have more reasons to rejoice as the Stanley Cup will be coming to Winnipeg Feb. 20.

As a part of Scotiabank’s cross-Canada tour, the final stop of the Celebration of Hockey brings one of the oldest and most famous sporting trophies to the Festival du Voyageur.

The Stanley Cup is a cultural symbol that all Canadians can identify with pride, said Terry Bjornson, Scotiabank’s vice-president for Manitoba and northwest Ontario.

Fans will have an opportunity to see the Stanley Cup from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"The inaugural season of the Winnipeg Jets is a historic event and long overdue," said Mark Chipman, chairman of True North Sports & Entertainment Limited. "What could be more inspiring for our team and our fans, to host the ultimate prize of hockey's famous Stanley Cup."
