Koe, Martin advance to finals in Portage spiel

Kevin Martin, the reigning Olympic men's curling champion, will meet Kevin Koe of Calgary tonight in the final of the 2012 Canad Inns Prairie Classic men's bonspiel at the Portage Curling Club at 6.

There is a $18,000 prize for the championship team, with second place taking home $10,000.

Organizers announced there will be free admission for the final game.

In today's semifinal games, Martin of Edmonton defeated Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont. 4-2 while Kevin Koe of Calgary beat Winnipeg's Jeff Stoughton 5-3.

In the quarter-finals today:

  • Jeff Stoughton of Winnipeg defeated William Lyburn of Winnipeg 9-1 in four ends,
  • Kevin Martin of Edmonton beat Brad Gushue of St. John's NFLD 8-5,
  • Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont. beat John Epping of Toronto 8-7 and
  • Kevin Koe of Calgary edged defending champion Mike McEwen of Winnipeg 5-4.
