Students sleep outdoors to raise money, awareness about homelessness

Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz is planning to visit a handful of University of Manitoba students staging a Five Day for the Homeless demonstration this morning.

For the fourth consecutive year, five students from the U of M will join 26 universities in a national campaign by living outside the campus for five days and five nights.

The demonstration began on Sunday for Asper School of Business students Kate Armstrong, Maria Gluskin, Sam Holloway, Jaysa Nachtigall and Jill Stevens.

Katz will visit the students outside of University Centre on the Fort Garry Campus at 9 a.m .

The objective is to raise funds and spread awareness of youth homeless in Winnipeg.

The campaign goal is to raise $17,500. All proceeds will go to Resource Assistance for Youth (RaY).

Sponsors for Five Days for the Homeless include CG Power Systems Canada Inc., CIBC Wood Gundy, Birchwood Automotive Group, the University of Manitoba and the Asper School of Business.
