Man freed from burning motorhome after collision with SUV

Two passersby freed a man from a burning RV on Sturgeon Road this morning after a crash between the motorhome and an SUV.

RCMP and Winnipeg police responded to the collision roughly half a mile south of Inkster Boulevard at around 8:45 a.m. They say it appears a southbound Mazda Tribute crossed the centre line for reasons unknown and collided head-on with the RV.

The RV caught fire, and the vehicle's 65-year-old driver was trapped inside. RCMP say two people who were passing the scene were able to free the man.

The driver of the SUV, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to hospital in stable condition. Two of the SUV's passengers, a woman and child, were treated for non-life threatening injuries, as was the driver of the RV.

Crews remained at the scene of the crash early this afternoon, and Headingley RCMP and an RCMP traffic analyst are still investigating.

Traffic flow at the intersection was expected to resume by 12:30 p.m.
