Subject of police alert arrested one day after release from jail

A high-risk sex offender who was released from jail Tuesday was re-arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan James Gabourie, 31, has been charged with breaching terms of probation after a man was found using an Internet terminal at the downtown Millennium Library, police said.

Police had issued a community notification Wednesday morning, alerting the public that Gabourie had been released.

Gabourie has a history of sexual offences involving young boys and girls.

Gabourie was just released from Headingley Correctional Centre after he was arrested in June. He had been convicted for violating curfew conditions and breaching probation terms that he not possess any device with Internet connections.

Before that, Gabourie had served a seven-year sentence in a federal prison for sexually molesting five young boys between the ages of 5 and 11 years.

Police said terms of Gabourie’s most recent sentence included not having possession of a computer with Internet access and using a computer for the purpose of communicating with a person under the age of 14.
