Sun loses seven positions as Sun Media downsizes

The Winnipeg Sun has lost seven staff positions, including five copy editors and an advertising sales rep, as a result of a downsizing of the Sun Media newspaper division, sources say.

Quebecor Inc. announced today it will be cutting some 500 jobs across the chain and closing two production facilities in Ottawa and Kingston, according to the Canadian Press.

They layoffs are part of the Montreal-based media group’s efforts to reduce annual costs by $45 million.

Sun Media has 36 paid-circulation daily newspapers and six free daily newspapers as well as almost 200 community newspapers, shopping guides and other specialty publications.
