A 27-year-old Winnipeg man is in custody and facing a number of charges in connection with a  break-in and sexual assault early Sunday morning.

An armed intruder entered a home in the 900-block of Carter Avenue around 5:20 a.m. Sunday, police said in a release.

The intruder awakened a 25-year-old woman and made sexual demands of her.

The woman screamed for help, alerting a 26-year-old woman living in the home. The intruder threatened both women before fleeing, police said.

Police identified a suspect who was arrested late Sunday afternoon in the same block of Carter Avenue. He faces several charges, including break and enter, disguise with intent, sexual assault with a weapon, uttering threats to kill, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of counterfeit money.

The women did not know the intruder, police said.

The suspect is being held at the remand centre.
