Scene of 'suspicious item' safe: police

The area where a "suspicious item" was found this morning in St. James has been declared safe.

"Numerous police resources including members of the Bomb Unit have deemed the area safe. The area is open to predestrian and vehicular traffic," police said.

Seven cruisers and more than a dozen officers had been called to the scene in the 300 block of Madison Street.

Police had the parking lot between Appelt's Diamonds and Perkins Restaurant taped off.
