Swan wants more discussion of First Nations justice issues at first ministers meeting

First Nations policing, drug treatment courts and legal aid top Justice Minister Andrew Swan’s agenda at a meeting of federal, provincial and territorial justice ministers in Regina this week.
"Demand for these programs is on the rise and federal funding to deliver them has remained frozen," Swan said in a government news release. "I’m looking for the federal ministers to work with us to ensure these programs can operate effectively."
Swan has said in the past he wants Ottawa to boost funding for legal aid and to expand federal support for drug treatment courts, already in place in Manitoba, to address addiction issues rather than penalizing people. It would also partly address the province’s recidivism rate.
Ministers began their three-day meeting today.
Swan also said he wants to be discuss cyber-bullying with the goal of finding a comprehensive solution to address the issue.
