Taxi driver assaulted, cab stolen
Police are looking for three men after a cab driver was assaulted and his taxi stolen.
The incident took place Saturday morning at 1:30 a.m. on the 700 block of Simcoe Street, after a 43-year-old cab driver was punched and robbed, police said.
Three suspects – all males – robbed the driver of cash and a cellphone, before taking off in the grey Toyota Corolla and abandoning it on the 800 block of Alverstone Street.
The driver didn’t suffer serious injuries, said police. The police helicopter, Air 1, and the canine unit were involved in the search.
Police are still looking for the three suspects, all Aboriginal.
The first suspect is about 30 to 35 years old, with a heavy build and a brush cut.
The second suspect is about 25 to 30 years old, and has long black hair. He also has a beard and moustache.
The third suspect is about 20 to 30 years old. He has short, black hair.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 986-6668 or CrimeStoppers at 786-8477 (TIPS).
