Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint; two men charged

WINNIPEG - Two men are facing robbery charges after a Winnipeg cabbie was held up early Saturday morning.

Winnipeg police said a 42-year-old woman driving the cab was robbed at knifepoint Saturday by two men she had picked up as a fare.

The two men were picked up in the 300-block of Lock Street, in the Weston neighbourhood, just before 5 a.m., police said. While driving near Notre Dame and Alverstone Street, one of the men pulled a knife and demanded cash.

The two passengers fled with cash and personal property belonging to the driver.

About an hour later, uniform officers arrested two men near Portage Avenue and Langside Street who matched the description of the suspects.

The two suspects, aged 25 and 22, have been charged with robbery and other offences. Both remain in custody.

These criminals should petition the government to give them extra money to hire more high-powered lawyers. I hear that's the new trend.

Duh. The weston area is NOT the north end. Shake your head before blurting out words. If you actually tried catching a cab in the north end it would only be allowed during the day. Never at night. Maybe if you were being dropped off but not picked up. I wonder how they matched the description? 2 aboriginal-looking males? Only ones around...might as well catch somebody than nobody.

That's a brave woman driver. Hope the police got her money and stuff back.

Once again... north end. Taxi drivers should avoid that area!

More poor individuals who have to steal to support themselves. I guess that they will blame something on their crime spree, saying it is someone else's fault, and won't take any necessary changes to improve themselves on their own, even if it means asking for help, changing their friends & lifestyles, and making out a resume to apply for a job?
I mean, they will have to do it after they get out of jail, and then get a job that doesn't care that they have a criminal record...
