There must be a lot of teddy bears in Winnipeg in need of a surgeon’s care.

Cars were bumper to bumper at the Assiniboine Park Sunday for the annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

Hundreds are lined up to see doctors here for the day to treat ailment from sore tummies to broken noses.

"Today’s almost ideal for us. It’s not too sunny. There’s a bit of a breeze and people have clearly responded," said volunteer co-ordinaror Jim McLaren.

Organizers counted 600 wounded and sick teddy bears, kangaroos, dogs and other beloved stuffed animals that were being treated an hour. This is the 27th annual Dr. Goodbear Clinic.

A live band on the main stage kept crowds moving to a jazz beat as lines cleared the clinic. There are 50 tents here this year.

The event is held every year at the park to raise awareness for the Children’s Hospital.

Latecomers to the event that wraps up at 5 p.m. might want to check out side streets for parking.
