Teen killed in car-pedestrian collision

A 19-year-old man from Chemawawin First Nation in Easterville died at the scene of a vehicle-pedestrian collision over the weekend on a provincial road near Moose Lake, RCMP reported Monday.

Slippery road conditions are being blamed for the fatality and there’s no indication that speed or alcohol were factors, RCMP said.

Officers from the Moose Lake detachment arrived on provincial road 384 about 8:30 p.m. Saturday along with emergency medical crews but it was too late to save the man’s life.

The pedestrian, a 19 year old man from Easterville, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name will not be released. RCMP identified him as a member of the Chemawawin First Nation.

The driver of the truck, 54-year-old man from Mosakahiken Cree Nation in Moose Lake, was heading west in a 2011 Ford pick-up when the collision happened. He was not injured.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst was called to study the scene with investigators. At this time charges are not expected, RCMP said.

Moose Lake is located 475 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
