RCMP arrested a 15-year-old male suspect in Headingley late Saturday after a carjacking at gunpoint in downtown Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Const. Jason Michalyshen said that a 40-year-old woman had parked in the 300 block of Kennedy Street around 6:40 p.m. when she was confronted by a male suspect pointing a black pistol-style pellet gun at her. He allegedly demanded the keys to her vehicle. She complied, then ran to safety.

The vehicle contained the woman’s purse, cash, and jewellery.

RCMP spotted the stolen vehicle around 11 p.m. and pulled it over, taking the suspect and three passengers into custody.

The 15-year-old has been charged with robbery using firearm, point firearm, and possess property obtained by crime over $5,000. He has been detained, Michalyshen said.
