Teenager shot beaver hunting

A 15-year-old boy was shot while out hunting beavers in the dark on Keeseekoowenin First Nation.

RCMP said the incident happened at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday when two teenage boys, ages 14 and 15, were out hunting beavers with a 26-year-old man.

Police said the 14-year-old fired his gun as he stumbled on a stone, shooting the 15-year-old boy.

The teen was taken to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where he is currently in surgery. His condition is unknown and RCMP said charges are pending.

Keeseekoowenin First Nation is located 278 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, near Russell.
