  • Print

Two youths are facing mischief charges after a chase that began on a school roof and involved both the police helicopter and canine unit.

The pursuit began around midnight when Winnipeg Police Service were called to a school in the 1500 block of Elgin Avenue West after reports that someone was on the roof damaging property.

The police helicopter was called in and saw the two youths hiding something on the roof before jumping off and fleeing. With the assistance of the canine unit, one of the youths was arrested a short distance away. The second was arrested after being located by officers.

A search of the roof revealed that a pellet gun had been hidden.

The two 14-year olds were charged with mischief under $5,000 and possession of a weapon. One was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre while the other was released on a promise to appear.
